I'm trying to use Post by Email, and email addresses with SSL don't work. Can anybody suggest an email service that doesn't use or require ssl?

Yes, in component description is described that ssl is not supported. Every domain based email not require ssl. For example you can try email box in this topic: How to test Post By Email
