We use three parsers inside our aggregators - standart simplepie, simplepie version modified by us, and 100% developed by us leightweight parser named "Custom Rss parser". This give much more possibiliies to client, like import of custom xml files (not feeds) in joomla database.
We have also solution like this for virtuemart, but this component is not working with latest VM versions - stop work before 3-4 months and needs to be updated (VM team post new and new and new versions every week).
