The Best Dropped domains Catcher in the world is … to use at least 3 from all listed above Dropped domains services.

If I had a dollar for every-time someone asked me, "who is the best domain name drop catcher", I would have a 10x larger domain portfolio.

For those new to domaining and "domain catching", let me quickly explain what a "drop catcher" is.

What is "domain catching"?
A domain name “Drop Catching Service”, commonly referred to as a “drop catcher”, is a company that will help you secure a domain name by registering it the absolute split second it becomes available. (If all this made no sense please read our beginner article).

These companies are either registrars and or work closely with registrars, in their attempt to help you secure a domain name that’s dropping.

All of them have one thing in common, you only pay if they catch the domain for you.

Where they differ is with the price, cutoff time, when you can backorder, when you can cancel, pre-payment and what they do if they have more than one person requesting the domain. As a general rule, there is no last second auction sniping during domain auctions, as any last minute bids causes the auction end time to be extended.

So let’s review the popular Drop Catcher’s (in no particular order, info below represents dot com backorders):

Dynadot.com - they charge only if they are successful in catching your domain. The cutoff time is 1:45PM EST and should there be more than one order request the domain goes into a private 3 day auction. A domain must have the “Pending Delete” status for you to be able to place your order.

Coupons for Dynadot here.

GoDaddy.com charge 20.98 for a single backorder but the price goes down to as low as 16.78 if you order in bulk (price was 20.98 before 2 years, when I last used daddy's services, the last two years I use only Dynadot. people say me prices from around 35-40 USD now). With godaddy you do prepay but if they do not catch the name for you, they issue you a credit to use towards backordering of another domain. If more than one person backorders a name, the domain will end up in a private auction. You can backorder a domain regardless how much time there is left until the expiration date.

NameJet.com - they charge $59 dollars to backorder a name and only charge your card if they catch the name for you. The cutoff time to place your order for a .com domain is the day of the drop at 12:00PM EST. If there where multiple people that backordered the same domain, the name goes into a private 3 days auction. You can backorder a domain regardless how much time there is left until the expiration date.

SnapNames.com: they charge $69 dollars to backorder a name and only charge your card if they catch the name for you. The cutoff time to place your order for a .com domain is the day of the drop at 1:45PM EST. If there where multiple people that backordered the same domain, the name goes into a private 3 days auction. A private auction means, that only those who backordered the name can bid on it. You can backorder a domain regardless how much time there is left until the expiration date.

Name.com - charge your card $49.95 to backorder a domain and if they are not successful they refund the money to your card. If they have a problem refunding your card they will simply apply a credit to your account. They are unique whereas they only allow one backorder per domain. This means, they if they catch the name you backordered with them, it’s automatically yours, no auction. If you search their DomainNabber system for a domain and it doesn’t show up, it simply means someone either ordered it already or the domain isn’t yet in the redemption / pending delete period.

BackorderZone.com they charge $49.95 to backorder a domain but only charge your card if they where successful in catching the domain. They offer discounts for bulk prepayment of backorders. The cutoff time is 1:00PM EST and should there be more than one order the domain goes into a 3 day auction. You can backorder a domain regardless how much time there is left until the expiration date.

Pheenix.com - they charge upon a successful catch. The cutoff time is 1:45PM EST and should there be more than one bidder the domain will go into a private 3 day auction. You can backorder a domain regardless how much time there is left until the expiration.

DropCatch.com - will charge your card $59 if they are successful at catching your domain. A domain must have the “Pending Delete” status for you to backorder using DropCatch.com. If there where more than one bidders and they catch the name, it will enter a 3 days “public auction”, this means anyone can bid even if they did not backorder the domain.

So if you place backorders often, there is no financial risk of ordering it up by many drop catchers, (unless if a company that you prepaid goes out of business or stops catching names).

So say you want a domain real bad, you must decide what the maximum is you are ready to pay for it, and backorder it at all drop catchers that fall within that price criteria.

It is truly a fools game to ponder and wonder who is the best drop catcher out there, and limit yourself to place your order there only. You really never know who will catch what, and smart domainers do not take chances, they understand that should someone else catch it, the cost to acquire it will be far greater than those backorder fees.

So, to answer the question, what is the best dropped domains service out there? Well, the one that catches the domain you want! And unfortunately, you never know who’s thread will hit the servers at just the right time.

One thing I could guarantee you, that any domain name you see out there with a backorder request, will be caught by one of the drop catchers listed above.

A common and very costly mistake many make, is trying to figure out if any of the more expensive “drop catchers” have a backorder for a given name. The thinking is, if the more expensive companies have no backorder for the name, why order up the name with them when you can just order it from those charging less per catch?

The problem is, time and again you will learn never to speculate what domain will be how popular backorder wise. You will learn that a domain you think is wonderful had no competition, while a name you thought is no big deal ends up at auction with 25 bidders.

Another popular myth that’s been circulating the web goes like this: “Find out who the current registrar of a dropping domain is, and see if they have a backordering service. If they do, backorder it there as they have the best chance of getting it”. Nothing is further from the truth, if the name is in pending delete, when it drops the current registrar has no better chance of getting it than if it was a domain not registered by them.

If you are confident a name is of value to you, if you have a plan on how to monetize it, then don’t risk losing it, because of a few bucks.

Wishing you success with all your future Dropped domains catch requests smile.gif

P.S. Domains already "catched" from me for sale - here we have list of Aged domains with backlinks for SEO - very low buy now prices between 50 and 100 USD!
